Microneedling

Microneedling with RF.

Tiny needles deliver heat exactly where new collagen should grow. It is the treatment we trust most for texture and acne scars, it works on every skin tone, and it needs a series of three to show what it can do.

How it works

Controlled injury, controlled repair.

A handpiece with a grid of fine, insulated needles enters the skin to a set depth, then releases a pulse of radiofrequency heat at the tip. The surface is barely touched. Underneath, the heat tightens existing collagen and tells the skin to build more. That rebuilding is what fills in a scar or a fine line, and it takes weeks, not days.

Because the energy goes in under the surface, there is far less pigment risk than with a laser. That makes it our first choice for medium and deep skin tones, and for anyone who has had a bad reaction to light treatments.

Best for

  • Acne scars, especially the shallow rolling kind
  • Rough or uneven texture and enlarged pores
  • Fine lines around the eyes and mouth
  • Crepey skin on the neck, chest, stomach and above the knees

The series

Three sessions, six weeks apart.

One session gives a glow that lasts a few weeks. Three sessions change the skin. We do not sell single sessions for scars because the result would disappoint you.

  1. Session one

Numbing cream for 30 minutes, then about 25 minutes of treatment. We go conservative on depth the first time and note how your skin responds.

  2. Session two, week six

Depth adjusted to your response. By now the first round of collagen is showing and texture is already smoother.

  3. Session three, week twelve

The deepest pass, aimed at the stubborn scars. Full results of the series show about three months after this one.

  4. Free check, month six

Photos side by side with your first visit. Most people do one maintenance session a year after that.

What to expect

Warm, prickly, then pink for two days.

With numbing cream it feels like warm sandpaper with occasional sharp spots along the jaw and forehead. Right after, your skin is red and feels tight, like a sunburn. Day two it is pink. Day three you can wear makeup. Some people get tiny dry flakes for a week.

Price

$450 a session for a small area, $900 to $1,200 for a full face and neck. The series of three is priced as three sessions, no bundle games.

Downtime

2 to 3 days pink. No workouts or makeup for 24 hours. Gentle cleanser and the serum we send home, nothing else, for five days.

Not right now if

Active acne breakouts, cold sores, pregnancy, isotretinoin within six months, or a pacemaker. We treat around small active spots but not through them.
